A Letter to You
A Letter to You From Elisabeth, Founder of Art!Rex

I have always been a deeply sentimental person, with a mind that rarely rests. Art has been my place of peace, a space where my silence can speak the words I have never been able to express.

I believe that art carries something profoundly human. Our memories, our emotions, our questions, and sometimes even the answers we did not know we were searching for.

This belief is at the heart of why I founded Art!Rex.

My wish is to see African and Caribbean artists recognised for the depth of their creativity, beyond the geographical labels that too often precede their names. Their paintings carry stories of love, identity, joy, loss, tradition, and the countless experiences that connect us as human beings.

I want these works to reach people who may never have encountered them before. Perhaps someone will discover a painting that brings them the same peace that art has brought me throughout my life. Perhaps they will find in it a feeling they had no name for.

But my ambition reaches beyond bringing art to an audience.

I want the creators themselves to be recognised, supported, protected, and remembered.

Too often, the careers of the artists we represent have been built through commercial galleries, where the rights to their work quietly left with the work itself. Their paintings appeared in books, catalogues and campaigns, reproduced again and again, while they were never asked and never shared in what followed. At Art!Rex, we see to it that our artists are honoured and respected, and that they receive what is theirs by right.

Their work deserves more than a moment of admiration or a sale. It deserves a place in collections, museums, archives, and the cultural conversations that will continue long after we are gone.

Through Art!Rex, I am building a curatorial, patronage, and artist management house where artistic careers are nurtured with the same care we give to the artworks themselves.

We live in a world where cultures constantly meet, influence, and enrich one another. Art reminds us that, beneath our different histories and traditions, we share far more than divides us.

And while art has the extraordinary ability to comfort, inspire, and sometimes even heal us, I believe it is time we give equal consideration to the people who create it.

We have spent generations finding ourselves through art. Now let us make sure the creators have a future through it.

With conviction and gratitude,

Elisabeth W. Art!Rex
